973,012. Stencilling; etching; ornamenting. GRUNDY (TEDDINGTON) Ltd. March 6, 1963 [March 27, 1962], No. 11657/62. Headings B6C, B6G and B6J: Aluminium alloy or stainless steel articles such as beer casks are marked with the name of the brewer or a serial number &c. by etching or roughening the area of the surface to be marked and then spraying metal thereon by an oxyacetylene spraying gun through a polished or metal-adhesion resisting stencil. The surface to be marked may be first exposed through a rubber mask and shot-blasted with aluminium oxide grit. Aluminium alloy wire containing silicon is fed to a metal spraying gun and the metal is sprayed through a polished metal, e.g. brass, stencil. The marked article is then etched in a phosphoric acid solution which etches the surface except where it is sprayed. The lettering &c. turns brown or black depending upon the time in solution.
