Abstract

1520026 Tannin containing anti-corrosion coatings PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd 15 Oct 1975 [25 Oct 1974] 42126/75 Addition to 1430020 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 and C7] Metal surfaces are treated against corrosion by coating with a conversion coating containing iron or zinc and phosphate ions and subsequently coating the thus-coated surface with an aqueous solution containing a melamine-formaldehyde resin and a vegetable tannin. The solution preferably comprises at least 0.01 g/l of the resin and at least 0.01 g/l of the tannin, there being at least one part by weight of resin, more especially at least 3.75 parts by weight of resin per part by weight of tannin. It is preferred that the solution have a pH of 6 to 9 and be free of chromium ions. The surfaces to be treated may be of zinc, iron or aluminium.
