Abstract

1,178,668. Coating. LUBRIZOL CORP. 5 March, 1968, No. 10669/68. Addition to 1083474. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C7] An aqueous phosphating solution for e.g. steel, Al, Zn or Cd comprises (% by weight) 0.1 to 40 phosphate ion, 0.2 to 55 nitrate ion, 0.2 to 30 lead ion, 0.007 to 0.30 fluoride ion, and has an acidity of 5 to 850 points. The solution may also contain 0.01 to 0.20 of ferric ions. After phosphating and rinsing with water, the surface may be rinsed with chromic acid or a metal chromate or dichromate e.g. calcium dichromate. A coating of a toluene solution of a melamine-alkyd enamel may be sprayed on the phosphate coating.
