Abstract

1520027 Tannin containing anti corrosion coatings PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd 15 Oct 1975 [25 Oct 1974] 42127/75 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Uncoated metal surfaces are provided with a corrosion-resistant coating, suitable as a base for the subsequent application of paint, by the application thereto of a substantially chromium - free aqueous composition comprising a melamine-formaldehyde resin and a vegetable tannin. The composition preferably contains at least 0.01 g/l of the resin and at least 0.01 g/l of tannin, at least one part by weight of resin being used per part by weight of tannin. Suitably the composition has a pH of from 6 to 9. Conductive materials such as pulverulent metals and conductive carbon may also be included in the compositions. Aluminium, zinc and ferrous surfaces may be treated.
