Abstract

1366106 Coating surfaces TOLLENS & CO NV and PLAATWERKERIJ EN VERZINKERIJ NV 28 Oct 1971 [29 Oct 1970] 50248/ 71 Heading B2E Protective films are obtained on hot-dip metal coated articles by dripping a spray of paint directly against the solidified metal coating while the latter is still hot from the hot-dip reatment, the paint comprising flowing agents not showing any boiling phenomenon at the temperature of the articles at the time of spraying. Preferably the paint is applied when the articles are at a temperature of at least 100‹C. The paint may comprise a thermosetting resin and the preferred metals are zinc, tin, lead, aluminium and alloys of these. The temperature at spraying may be sufficient to cross-link the binding agent of the paint. Suitable thermosetting resins are epoxy resins and alkyd resins. The paint may be applied by electrostatic spray. In the Example H-section steel beams are coated.
