Abstract

An alloy steel surface (12% Ni, 5% Cr, and 5% Mo) is first contacted with an acid oxalating solution, and then with a phosphating solution. The oxalate solution may be (g. À/1.) 40 oxalic acid, 1À5 sodium meta dinitrobenzene sulphonate, 2À6 ammonium thiocyanate, and 5À0 ammonium bifluoride. The phosphating solution may be 18À0 P0 4 , 25N0 3 , 8Zn, and 2Fe. The phosphating solution may also include manganese. The steel surface may be first grit blasted or pickled in e.g. 25% by vol. HNO 3 and 10% by vol. of 60% HF.
