Abstract
An alloy steel contains in percentage by weight .C.0.10-0.32 .Mn.0.60-1.30 .P.-0.05 .S.-0.05 .Ni.0-1.70 .Cr.0.40-2.25 .Mo.0.10-0.65 .V.0.03-0.10 .Fe.balance the combined amounts of chromium and nickel when present being not less than 1.10% and boron being present in amounts of 0.001-0.004% when nickel is absent, use of the steel for components of excavating equipment is referred to. The steel is heat treated by air cooling from a temperature not exceeding 1800 DEG F., reheating to not more than 1750 DEG F. and quenched in liquid, followed by tempering below 1300 DEG F. Specification 773,923 is referred to.
