Abstract

An alloy steel, which is particularly suitable for parts of aircraft, e.g. undercarriages, contains in percentage by weight .Co.0.75- 6 .Ni.0 - 3 .Cr.0.5 - 5 .Mo.0.2 - 1 .C.0.4 - 0.7 .Si.1.5 - 3 .Mn.0.2 - 0.6 .V.0 - 0.1 .Fe.Balance The steel is heat-treated first in the range 1600-1750 DEG F., terminated by quenching, and is then tempered at not less than 600 DEG F. It may be first air-cooled from the austenitizing temperature, followed by reheating and quenching, and a double tempering treatment may be employed. Specification 766,090 is referred to.
