970,907. Combing machines. DEUTSCHER SPINNEREIMASCHINENBAU INGOLSTADT NIEDERLASSUNG DER SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK A. G. Aug. 27, 1962 [Aug. 29, 1961], No. 32824/62. Heading D1N. The comb cylinder of a rectilinear combing machine has a suction aperture extending along the cylinder between the needles. In a cylinder having a coarse needle segment S<SP>1</SP> and a fine needle segment S<SP>2</SP>, a nozzle 21 is provided to extend through the fine segment about midway along its arcuate length. The nozzle 21 is connected to the hollow shaft 20 of the cylinder which in turn is connected to stationary suction ducts at the shaft ends. A filter for neps and short fibres is associated with the ducts and the amount of suction air passing through the nozzle is controlled by bushes that are located between the hollow shaft 20 and stationary bearings into which the ducts open. Alternative forms utilize valves in the suction ducts that are operated by cams driven by the comb and separate nozzles arranged in circumferential sequence in the needle segment, Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 896,504.
