Abstract

1,034,692. Carding engines. GIDDINGS & LEWIS-FRASER Ltd. May 4,1965 [May 28, 1964], No. 22061/64. Heading D1N. Apparatus for carding fibrous material particularly jute comprises a pinned feed roller 1, a pinned cylinder 2 and a guide member 4 extending into the point of closest approach of the roller and the cylinder, the member 4 having a bulbous protrusion 10 in its leading end and a surface 11 defining, together with the cylinder 2 a throat which diverges towards the protrusion 10. Thus the fibrous material is combed by the pins 14 in a suspended position. Member 4 is mounted on a member 5 adjustably mounted on the frame 6. The portion of member 5 adjacent roller 1 is generally concentric therewith defining a passage which widens at its end remote from member 4 and is fed with fibres from fluted rollers 8, 9.
