Abstract

896,504. Combing machines. SACO-LOWELL SHOPS. April 20, 1959 [April 28, 1958], No. 13440/59. Class 120(1) A combing machine with a half-lap has means for applying suction to the side of a sliver adjacent the needles of the half-lap so as to urge the sliver into contact with them during the combing action. By suitable casings in the lower part of the combing machine, the comb cylinder is caused to operate in a region of sub-atmospheric pressure and the provision of the passage-way 40 through the cylinder results in suction being applied in the proximity of the leading pins of the half-lap 18. A flexible sheet member 52 is arranged to obstruct the passageway 40 during most of the comb cylinder's revolution but as the cylinder increases speed for the combing action a weight 58 moves to displace the member 52 and thus to open the passageway 40 to the influence of the sub-atmospheric pressure.
