Abstract

970,840. Spinnerets. MONSANTO CO. June 24, 1963 [June 25, 1962], No. 24990/63. Heading B5B. A spinneret for the production of composite or potentially crimpable filaments is supplied axially with a first spinning composition which flows through pipe 22, manifold 16 and distribution plate 20 and spinneret plates 14 to chamber 36 and laterally with a second spinning composition which flows through pipe 32, annular space 30 and ports 34 to chamber 36, in which the two compositions merge before being extruded through spinneret plate 15 as filaments 37. The filaments are made up of discrete portions of the two compositions and the lines of demarcation between them extend across the filament at random, so that crimping can be effected by annealing the filaments. Spinneret plates 14 and 15 are desirably closely spaced so that each discrete portion is relatively small, this resulting in a more uniform crimp in the annealed filament.
