Abstract

A substantially untwisted group of bicomponent filaments having latent crimpability are combined with a substantially untwisted group of one-component filaments in a ratio by weight between 4: 6 and 9:1. The one component filaments may comprise filaments of two or more materials. Spinnerets described comprise an annular spinning chamber surrounding a central spinning chamber with spinning orifices arranged at the junction of the two chambers and through which the bi-component filaments are spun and optionally further orifices in the central chamber or in both chambers through which the one-component filaments are spun. Polymers used may be polyamides, polyesters, polyolefines, polyacrylonitriles or polyvinyls. In specific examples the bi-component filaments were composed of nylon 6 and a copolymer of nylon 6 and polyhexamethylene isophthalamide, and the onecomponent filaments of nylon 6 or of nylon 6 and the copolymer.
