Abstract

1410412 Copolyester filaments EMERY INDUSTRIES Inc 6 March 1973 [15 March 1972 30 Oct 1972] 10825/73 Heading B5B [Also in Divisions C3 and C2] In a method of preparing flame retardant fibre-forming copolyesters (see Division C3), the products are melt spun into filaments at 273-285‹ C., and the whiteness of such filaments may be improved by adding up to 400 ppm. of 7-naphthathiazinyl-3-phenylcoumarin and a blue toner to the basic di-#-hydroxyethyl terephthalate polymer. Example III describes the preparation of a yarn from 855 such filaments, which is drawn at a ratio of 3 through an aqueous bath, crimped, relaxed and cut into staple fibres. The copolyester fibres have a denier of 1-5, a tenacity of 3À5-4À5 g./ denier and an elongation of 40-50%.
