Abstract

1459597 Bicomponent crimped yarns RHONE-POULENC TEXTILE 25 March 1974 [26 March 1973] 13096/74 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] Crimped multi-filament yarns are made of bicomponent organic polymer filaments in which each filament has an elongated cross-section and the position of the interface between the components varies from filament to filament such that filaments of at least two types obtain, in one of which the interface is along or parallel to the major axis and in the other it is along or parallel to the minor axis. Such yarn is produced by extruding two differing spinnable compositions side-by-side through elongated spinneret orifices whose ratio of major to minor axes is at least two. Suitable orifice arrays are illustrated in Figs. 12 and 21 and typical interface dispositions at the orifices in Figs. 1 to 4. Examples are given in which the polymers are polyethylene terephthalate and polybutylene terephthalate crosslinked with trimethylolpropane; acrylonitrile, methyl methacrylate, potassium vinyloxy-benzene sulphonate and acrylonitrile methyl methacrylate, potassium vinyloxybenzene sulphonate.
