Abstract

1,145,818. Crimped polypropylene filaments. ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K.K. 27 Feb., 1968 [28 Feb., 1967], No. 9505/68. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Crimped fibres are obtained by melt spinning crystalline polypropylene having a depolymerization degree (as defined in the Specification) of less than 2À0, at a spinneret temperature of 260-280‹ C. and a spinning speed of more than 600 m./min., heat treating the resulting fibres at 120-150‹ C., subsequently drawing them at 110-150‹ C., and finally relaxing them. The draw ratio is suitably from 1À1-4À0. The polypropylene may contain less than 20% of additives, have a reduced viscosity of 0À8-3À0 (in tetralin at 135‹ C., and a concn. of 0À1 g./100 ml.), and has preferably less than 20% of a component extractable by n-heptane. The crimped relaxed fibres may be steam-treated. The crimp remains recoverable after prolonged storage under tension.
