Abstract
Stable, bulky isotactic polypropylene filamentary yarns are produced from drawn filament yarns made by the process of the parent Specification (wherein isotactic polypropylene is melt spun at such a temperature and at such a throughput from polymer of an intrinsic viscosity such that the intrinsic viscosity of the spun yarn is in the range 1.0 to 3.0, and the birefringence of the spun yarn is between 10 x 10-3 and 25 x 10-3, the yarn being allowed to relax freely, either with or without an intermediate drawing step, (see Division B5), by plying the yarns together without previously heat treating them, and then, after plying them together heat setting the plied yarns by maintaining them at a temperature within the range 60 to 140 DEG C, preferably 90-115 DEG C for a time between a few minutes and a few hours. The yarns are characterised by a high twist stability.
