Abstract

969,706. Adjustable hems. M. M. ISAACS. Oct. 18, 1962 [Nov. 9, 1961], No. 39417/62. Heading A3V. Length adjustment means for garments (e.g. trousers, coat sleeves, jackets, skirts) comprises a hem flap returned inside the garment and secured in position by an adjustment lining attached to the inside of the garment and incorporating a plurality of spaced rows of removable adjustment stitches. The trouser bottom (Figs. 1, 2 and 3) shown opened along side seam 8, 8, has creases 9, 9. The bottom is returned inside the leg to constitute hem flap 10, and a length of suitable material is secured to the face of the inturned hem flap by parallel rows of removable adjustment stitches 12, 12. The uppermost row 12<SP>2</SP> may be of a permanent stitching. The free section 11<SP>1</SP> of the adjustment lining 11 is returned upwards and secured to the inner surface of the leg by blind stitching 14 which does not penetrate the leg material. To increase the length a row or rows of stitching are removed (Fig. 3).
