SLEEPING-GARMENT on PAJAMAS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 1, 1906.
Application filed November'22, 1,904. Serial No. 233.897.
To a, whmn it 1nd concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER 0. LEE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at New York, in the county of New York-and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleeping- Garments or Pajamas; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others sk lled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in pajamas and similar garments for sleeping and lounging purposes.
The object of the invention is to provide a one-piece garment of this character which will have the appearance of the usual two-.
piece garment or suit and in which the greatest convenience and comfort will be secured to the wearer.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arran ement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved garment, showing the same in its opened position. Fig. 2 is a detail vertical sectional view through the waist portion of the garment; and Fig. 3
is a view similar to Fig. 1 of a slightly-modified form of the invention, parts being broken away to more clearly illustrate the construction.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 denotes the jacket or coat, and 2 denotes the form a one-piece suit or garment, as shown. The jacket and trousers may be made of any material and in any style, and they may be made separate and then united, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or integral of one or more vertical strips of material, as shown in Fig. 3. In either case the trousers are 0 en around the crotch 3 from the front of t e waist to its rear, so that the two legs 4 4 are independent of each other, and the jacket is open at the front to permit of the garment being ut on and off. The front of the jacket and a so the fly or front of the trousers may be held together or closed by providing buttons 5 and buttonholes 6, as shown, or any other suitable fastening means. If desired, tabsll may be employed at the front of the waist of the trousers, as shown.
As'shown in Figs. 1 and 2', the jacket and trousers are made separate, and the upper edge or waist of the trousers is sewed, as at 7, or attached in any other suitable manner to the inner face of the lower part of the jacket, which latter is made long to form' a surrounding skirt 8 to-cover and conceal the opening 3 in the trousers.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings the body of the jacket and the legs of the trousers are shown as formed from one continuous strip or piece of fabric or other material, and the skirt is formed by a separate piece or band of material 9, which is sewed or otherwise secured, as at 10, upon the outside of the garment at its waist,'so that it hangs down and hides the opening in the trousers.
The advantages of the'invention will be readily understood from the fore oing description, taken in connection wit the accompanying drawings. The open portions of the jacket and trousers enable the garment to be readily put on and off, and there are no draw-strin s or other tight connections at the waist. he entire body is covered by the garment, and the hanging skirt portion covers and protects the opening in the trousers, so that the modesty of the ordinary garment is preserved.
When the arment is made for the use of women, the s irt may be made as long as desired.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the prin-' ciple or sacrificing an of the advantages of this invention as de ed by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A garment of the character described com risin the united jacket and trousers, the atter eing open around the crotch from the front to the rear of the waist, and the former having a skirt secured on the outside and adapted to conceal the openin in the trousers, substantially as shown and described.
2. A garment of the character described com rising a jacket and trousers, the body of therefrom to conceal said opening in the trouthe ormer and thelegs 0f the latter being sers, substantially as shown and described.
formed of a continuous stri of material, said 1 trousers being open aroum l the crotch from i JTER 5 the front to the rear of the Waist, and a sur- I Witnesses:
rounding skirt attached to the garment on CLAUDE B. WEVER,
the outer side at the waist and depending WM. LESTER WEMPLE.
