Description
Oct. 5, 1954 e. G. CORNET VEST AND JACKET COMBINATION Filed Jan. 25, 1953 [72 m2? far 1&5 .gmevizvzg came! Patented Oct. 5, 1954 STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a new and useful means for sports wear and suits. The object is having a vest when desired and a jacket for more dressy occasions or when the Weather calls for more clothing. This will provide a variety of styles and color combinations for less money.
One form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is the jacket showing the sleeves and collar zippered in; Figure 2 shows the vest after removing the collar and sleeves; Figure 3 shows the process of removing the collar and sleeves; and shows the zippers on the inside of the jacket. The zippers do not go completely around the neck, only to the shoulder seams.
Reference character l indicates the jacket to which the sleeves 3 are attached by zippers l, the hem on the armholes completely cover the zippers 4 and can not be seen when worn as a jacket I or vest. The looks or pull-tabs on the zippers i start and finish under the arm hiding the looks or pull-tabs. The side of the zippers 4 that have the looks or pull-tabs are connected to the sleeves 3 so when the sleeves 3 are removed there arent any looks or pull-tabs hanging and exposed. By sewing the zippers 4 into the jacket l with the looks or pulls tabs to the outside makes it easier for removing the sleeves 3 and the jacket i does not have to be taken off to convert it from the jacket I to the vest or vice versa. The zippers 5 attach the collar 2 to the jacket I and are also put in with the material covering them so they do not show at any time when the collar 2 is on or off. The zippers 5 that connect the collar 2 to the jacket I are started at the front and zipped up to the shoulder seams of the jacket 5 so the looks or pull tabs are covered and do not cause bulk or lumpiness across the front under collar 2. The flap 6 indicated with broken lines is used across the back of jacket i to hold the collar 2 in place in the back, as a zipper would not be comfortable across the back of the neck especially when wearing it without the collar 3. The parts of the zippers 5 with the looks or pull-tabs are connected (sewed) onto the collar 2 so when the collar 2 is removed there are no dangling locks or pull-tabs.
This vest and jacket may be worn either with or without the collar. In color combinations plains and plaids or plains and dots or stripes may be used with the jacket body in one and the sleeves and collar in the other. By this means many different patterns in skirts can be worn with this to make up suits. It seems that combinations of all kinds could be mixed and matched. On hot days the sleeves and collar can be removedfolded or rolled and put into ones purse, depending on the material used. On chilly days zip in the sleeves and zip on the collar and be warm and comfortable.
I claim:
A convertible jacket comprising a main body element having front and back panel portions connected together so as to provide side seams, armholes and shoulder seams, a pair of detachable sleeves and a collar element having elongated end portions, the lower portions of the adjacent edges of the front panels defining an open front with the upper adjacent edge portions of the front panels defining a V-shaped neck opening, fastening means extending from the lower end of said V-shaped neck opening inset from the edges and on the underside thereof and terminating at the shoulder seams of said body element, the elongated end portions of said collar element having complementary fastening means disposed along their adjacent edges and adapted to cooperate with the fastening means on the edges of said neck opening, the back of said collar being provided with a flap adapted to underlie the neck portion of the back panel whereby the collar may be secured in position; each of said sleeves and armholes having complementary detachable fastening means whereby the sleeves may be secured in position.
