Abstract
967,329. Securing railway rails; sleepers. CHRISTIANI & NIELSEN (SOUTH AFRICA) (PTY) Ltd. June 14, 1962 [June 22, 1961], No. 22835/62. Heading E1G. A railway rail 1 is secured to a concrete sleeper 2 by means of a spring clip 3 which bears against a rod 4 the ends of which are embedded in the sides of the recess 5 in the sleeper. The ends of arms 3a, 3b have notches 8a, 8b which engage upper and side faces of the rail flange and are located at different distances from the plane of symmetry of the clip to allow the distance between the rails to be altered by reversing the clips. An insulating member 11 may be located between the rod 4 and the clip or the rod may be covered with fibre glass reinforced plastics material. Rubber insulating pads 9a and 9b and distance pieces 10a, 10b may be provided. Reinforcing springs such as 7a are embedded in the concrete to form additional anchorage for the rod 4.
