Abstract
1434560 Securing railway rails R G WIGGILL 16 Aug 1973 [16 Aug 1972 3 Oct 1972] 38803/73 Heading E1G A flanged railway rail 18 is clamped on a concrete or other sleeper 12 by a leaf spring 20 loaded by a wedge 26, the wedge being retained by a locating abutment such as a depending ridge 14.11, Fig. 7, shown engaging a selected notch 26.4 in the upper wedge face. As shown the rail 18 seats on a pad 28 between shoulders 14 providing anchoring eyes 14.1 for the wedges 26, each clip 20 comprising an apertured plate spring whose outer downward end seats in a recess 14.4 and whose inner end bears on the rail flange through a gaugeadjuster 22 and insulator 24. Interlocking formations 28.1, 24.1 and 22.1 are provided between respectively the pad 28 and sleeper 12, the adjuster 22 and insulator 24, and the adjuster 22 and spring 20. The wedge 26 has loading markings 26.5. In modifications the anchoring shoulders (14) are (a) detachably keyed to a metal sleeper (Fig. 5, not shown); (b) integral with a chair plate (30) anchored to a concrete sleeper (Fig. 3, not shown); or (c) integral with a chair plate (32) bolted to a wooden sleeper (Fig. 4, not shown). The insulators and rail pad may be omitted.
