Abstract

910,744. Fastening railway rails. TEMPERED SPRING CO. Ltd. Dec. 4, 1958 [Dec. 19, 1957], No. 39525/57. Class 104 (2). In securing railway rails 10 to sleepers 13 by a pair of resilient plates 21 held in rail holding engagement with the rail 10 at opposite sides thereof, each plate 21 bearing at one end on the rail foot 11 and supported at its other end on a fulcrum 20 while a plate-constraining member 22 bears downwards and straddles the plate 21 intermediate the ends thereof, the fulcrum 20 and plate-constraining member 22 are formed by the exposed return bends of inverted U wire rods 29, Fig. 3, cemented in a concrete sleeper 13, one wire rod extending through the sleeper 13 under the rail 10 to provide the plateconstraining member 22 at opposite sides of the rail 10 or extending through the sleeper 13 remote from the rail 10 to provide the adjacent plate-constraining member 22 and fulcrum member 20 at one side of the rail 10, Fig. 1. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, a resilient plate member 21 is inserted over a fulcrum 23 and under a plate-constraining member 22 and is driven transversely to the rail 10 so that its end 25 bears on, or through the intermediary of an electrically insulating member 14, on the rail foot 11. The fulcrum 23 and the plateconstraining member 22 are formed by a round wire rod 17 bent to provide two upright spaced apart U-shaped loops 18, 19. The rod 17 is embedded or may be inserted in holes or passages in the sleeper 12 and then secured by electrically insulating cement. The end 25 of the plate 21 bears on the rail foot 11 or member 14 at two points 45, 46.
