Abstract

861,473. Fastening railway rails. LOCKSPIKE Ltd. Aug. 2, 1957 [Aug. 3, 1956], No. 24602/67. Class 104 (2). A railway rail-fastening member comprising a length of resilient metal rod is bent so as to have, progressing from one end 10 of the rod to the other end, a first portion 7 which constitutes a straight leg, a second reverse bend portion 12, a third portion 9 extending in the direction of the end 10, a forth portion 15 constituting a second reverse bend which extends from the third portion 9 to that side on which the leg 7 is disposed and finally a fifth portion 8 which extends towards the junction between the first and second portions 7, 12, the configuration being such that when the fastener is in situ with its first portion 7 horizontal the third and fifth portions 9, 8 appear to be on opposite sides of the first portion 7. In the arrangement shown the first portion 7 of the fastener engages a passage 6 formed beneath rail-locating ribs 3 of a base-plate 4 so that the third portion 9 bears on the rail flange 2 whilst the fifth portion 8 bears on the base. plate 4 on the side of the rib 3 remote from the rail. The base-plate 4 may be dispensed with and the passages 6 formed in the sleeper.
