Abstract
858,108. Fastening railway rails to sleepers. LAING & SON (SOUTH AFRICA) (PROPRIETARY) Ltd., J. March 16, 1959 [March 24, 1958], No. 9096/59. Class 104 (2). In a rigid clip type of rail fastening each clip is adapted to pivot about the end opposite to that in contact with the rail flange and is secured to the sleeper and rail flange by a bolt resiliently secured to the sleeper. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 a rigid clip 1, pivoted at its end remote from the rail flange 3 in a recess, Fig. 1 (not shown), or an insulated block 17 accommodated in a recess, in the sleeper top, is held in position by a nut 15 on a bolt 9 passing through a tapered hole 8 in the sleeper 6 and engaging by means of its " T "-shaped head 10 a resilient plate 12. An enlarged portion 11 receiving the plate 12 is recessed beneath the plate 12 to allow the plate 12 to flex. This recess may be formed by casting in the sleeper 6 a core of sponge rubber or other soft material. A flanged insulating collar 19 may be provided between the bolt 9 and the clip 1. The hole 8 is shaped to allow the downward passage of the " T "-shaped head 10 of the bolt 9.
