869,834. Fastening railway rails. TEMPERED SPRING CO. Ltd., and YOUNG, G. Dec. 7, 1959 [Oct. 23, 1958], No. 33995/58. Class 104 (2). In a railway rail base-plate formed with a recess having a bottom 2 inclined to the horizontal and shoulders 3 formed with recesses 4 to accommodate heels 5 of fastening clips 6 and apertured at 8 to receive balls 9 the apertures 8 are inclined to the vertical at right angles to the plane of the recess bottom 2 and the shoulders 3 are formed symmetrically about a plane through the longitudinal centre line 7 of the recess at right angles to the bottom 2 thereof. The clip 6 is provided with a portion 13 which overlies the flange of the rail 14 and initially bears on the flange at 15 but when tightened also bears on the rail flange at 16 near the outer edge thereof.
