Abstract
933,112. Securing railway rails to sleepers. G. W. HAMMER. Sept. 1, 1959 [Sept. 2, 1958; Sept. 3, 1958], No. 29865/59. Class 104 (2). A. railway rail is secured to a sleeper 5 by a clamp comprising a plate member having a linear part 6 extending beneath the rail flange 2 and connected to a second part 3 provided with a hole 13 for securing the plate member resiliently to the sleeper 5 by a bolt 4 and a tongue 7 formed integrally with, or provided as a separate unit co-operating with the second part 3 to bear resiliently on the upper surface of the rail flange 2. The head of the bolt 4 is accommodated in a recessed portion of the second part 3 or, Fig. 5 (not shown), the upwardly turned arms of a U-shaped member. In an alternative arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the tongue 7 is formed as a separate member and is driven through holes in the walls of the second portion 24 and held in position by the bolt 28. Clamps may be provided on the inner, outer or both flanges of the rails of a track depending on the forces transmitted to the rails, Fig. 4 (not shown).
