Abstract

1,032,726. Securing railway rails. E. WIRSING. July 29, 1963 [Aug. 14, 1962], No. 30014/63. Heading E1G. Rails 1 are secured to reinforced concrete sleepers 4 by steel springs 10 having double shanks 11, 12 resiliently engaging substantially vertical openings 5 in the sleepers in a direction parallel to the rails and in a direction perpendicular to the rails, one shank being bent, 13, to hold down the rail. The upper end of the other shank is bent horizontally to provide an abutment 14 for the rail flange, while the back of the shank 11 is held against the side of the opening 5. A double spring joined at the abutments 14 may be engaged in two sleeper openings or two separate springs may be arranged side by side in one opening. In another embodiment, the two shanks are joined by a double loop forming the rail holding portion. The rail may rest on a rubber pad 3.
