1328517 Securing railway rails BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD 16 July 1971 [23 April 1970] 19604/70 Addition to 1042991 Heading E1G In a rail fastening wherein a spring plate 5, Fig. 1, bears at one end on a support 8 and at the other end on rail foot 6 - e.g. through an insulator 7 - and passes under a reaction piece 9 embedded in a sleeper or a concrete slab 2 the piece 9 is formed with a ramp 15 to guide the rail during lowering and with a lateral abutment shoulder 17 (shown sloping). As shown in Fig. 2 the plate 5 is forked and passes under cantilever arms 12, 13 of a reaction piece which has ramp surfaces 15, 16; a concrete shoulder 18 supports the rail-abutment shoulder 17 (Fig. 1). In a modification the arms 12, 13 are replaced by a continuous cross bar.
