Abstract

704,009. Securing railway rails. TURTON, PLATTS & CO., Ltd., G.,. and PENN, E. May 8, 1952 [May 9, 1951], No. 10907/51. Class 104 (2) A rail 10 is secured to a sleeper 11 or a base-plate 14 by a spring clip 12 or 13 having a straight length 24 extending at one end into a bent portion 25 26, the clip 12 or 13 being secured to the base-plate 14 by the straight length and the rail 10 being held down by the bent portion 25, 26 bearing on the rail flange 17. The rail foot 15 is located in a recess 16 in the base-plate 14 and the straight lengths 24 of the clips 12 or 13 are seated in recesses whose surfaces are co-planar with the surface of the recess 16. The clips 12 or 13 may be of laminated form made from strip metal folded on itself or of a single strip of adequate thickness. The end 26 of the clip 12 or 13 terminates at a point above the lower face of the straight length 24 and may be of a form complementary to the inclination of the rail flange 17, and of rounded or other suitable shape to allow slight lateral rail movement. A renewable wear plate with or without a peripheral flange may be inserted between the rail flange 17 and the end 26 of the clips 12 or 13. The clip 12 or 13 may be held down by a screw 23 entering the sleeper 11 or may be bolted only to the base-plate 14.
