A base-plate for supporting a flange-footed rail 22 and mounted on a separately-formed sleeper and in which the rail 22 is secured to a rail seating 23 on the base-plate by clips 38 having upper and lower arms 36, 37 connected resiliently together at one end 38 and provided at the other ends respectively with downwardly- and upwardly-directed gripping portions 40, 42 which respectively apply a gripping pressure to the rail flange and engage a downwardlydirected abutment face 26a-provided on a part of the base-plate, the base-plate is formed on at least one of its two longitudinal edges with one or more openings 24, 25 to receive the lower arm 37 of one of the clips, each opening extends to an inner face 19 disposed beneath the rail seating 23 and extending transversely to the opening length so as to be engageable by the free end 37a of the lower clip arm 37' to limit. the driving movement of the clip and the upper side of each opening near the inner face 19 constitutes the abutment face 26a and extends in a direction parallel to or upwardly inclined relatively to the rail seat 23 so as to retain the lower clip arm 37 in position.
