Abstract

915,744. Securing railway rails. TURTON PLATTS & CO. Ltd., GEORGE. June 8, 1959 [June 9, 1958], No. 18402/58. Class 104 (2). A rail 6 is secured to a sleeper 8-either directly or, as shown, to a chair 7 on the sleeper-by means of U-shaped clips 9 each of which has its base and its ends bent out of the plane of the U, the base 9c extending downwardly to engage the sleeper or chair and the free ends 9a, 9b similarly engaging the rail. The links of the U are bridged by a member 13 which co-operates with a nut 14 on a fixed bolt 11 to hold the clip in rail-holding position (firm lines in Fig. 1) but allowing for removal of the clip (to the broken line position) by merely loosening the nut. The ends 9a, 9b of the clip may be bent right back, i.e. tucked under the unbent central part of the U, and in such bending shaped to follow the contour of the rail flange 6a.
