Abstract
964,708. Electric incandescent lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 9, 1961 [Feb. 12, 1960], No. 4862/61. Heading H1F. An electric lamp is provided with a thin metallic screen having an open-ended slot with substantially parallel edges positioned transversely of the lamp axis by co-operation of the slot with the stem tube, the screen having parallel to and adjacent to a principal edge of the slot, a further slot wholly surrounded by the material of the screen, the principal edge of the second slot adjacent to the open-ended slot being parallel to the adjacent principal edge of the latter. Preferably, the open-ended slot has a slight bend in one edge so as to widen the mouth end slightly, the widening starting at a point a smaller distance from the closed end of the slot than the end of the further slot nearer the open end of the first slot. The closed slot may be rectangular or segment shaped, the straight edge of the segment being nearer the open-ended slot. The stem tube 4 is provided with cuts 20 on opposite sides to receive the edges 23, 24 of the slot 22 in the screen 19. The edge 23 is formed with a slight bend at A and a closed slot 26 is located a small distance from and parallel to the edge 24. If desired, closed slots may be provided adjacent both edges. The screen may alternatively be supported on the pinch which may have locating ridges for the purpose. The screen may also be used in conjunction with a discharge lamp enclosed in a bulb.
