Abstract

1,049,626. Incandescent lamp filaments. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 13, 1965 [July 16, 1964], No. 29657/65. Heading H1F. A selectively radiating filament in an electric lamp consists of, or has a surface consisting of, a compound in which the concentration of free charge carriers lies between 2 x 10<SP>21</SP> and 2 x 10<SP>22</SP> atoms/cc. and the mobility of the carriers at the operating temperature is at least 2 cm<SP>2</SP>/VS. The filament may comprise a hexaboride of a rare earth or alkaline earth metal, for example lanthanum, cerium, praeseodymium, neodymium and ytterbium. Mixtures of these compounds may be used. The bulb filling may contain a volatile borohalogen compound, e.g. BF 3 , BCl 3 .
