Abstract

795,030. Lamp-caps. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 16, 1956 [July 19, 1955], No. 21907/56. Class 38 (1). In a lamp 1 wherein the lead-wires 10 are brought out through flat pinches 5, 6 or a single pinch at one end of the lamp, each pinch is provided with a contact formed from a flat plate 20, Fig. 4, having a central hole 21 with recesses 22, 23 and through which the pinch is passed with the side edges engaging the recesses. The pinch is wider than the lamp bulb so that when the plate has passed the shoulders 13, 14 formed by the inner corners of the pinch, it can be rotated to secure it on the pinch. The plate is then folded in two so as to engage both sides of the pinch and is compressed on to the pinch along the front edge 28 thereof and at the corners 29, 30, the outer ends of the plate being secured together by an eyelet 27 or by tags on one end bent over the other end.. The lead-wire 10 is spot welded to the plate at 26. Where the lamp has a single pinch the recesses 22, 23 need not be provided in the plate since the latter can be passed over the lamp bulb. Another form of contact for use with such a lamp is shown in Fig. 5 and comprises a wire ring 40 having tags 41, 42 soldered thereto. The pinch may have a width equal to the diameter of the lamp bulb in which case shoulders for engagement by the contact are provided by a constriction located adjacent the lamp bulb or intermediate the ends of the pinch (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown). Another form of pinch (Fig. 8, not shown) gradually increases in width towards the outer end. Fig. 9 shows a lamp having a pinch 58 similar to that shown in Fig. 1 except that two lead-wires 59, 60 are brought out therethrough. In this case the two ends of the contact plate are not pressed together along the front edge of the pinch but enclose an insulating spacer 65 which projects outside the contact and carries a contact eyelet 69. The spacer has passages 68, 66 for the lead-wires 60, 59 which lead respectively to the eyelet 69 and an eyelet 67 securing the ends of the contact together. Such a construction may be extended for use with lamps wherein three or more lead-wires are brought out through a pinch.
