Abstract
771,476. Lamp caps. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 29, 1953 [Oct. 30, 1952], No. 29951/53. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XL (a)] A base for an electric lamp, particularly a fluorescent discharge lamp, having a doubleended tubular envelope 1 of substantially circular configuration having terminals extending from its ends, comprises a sheet metal sleeve 2 curved to conform with the envelope and made up of two longitudinal sheet aluminium sections 3, 4 having overlapping edges, one pair 14, 16 interlocking at their end portions 20, 17 and 22, 19 and at their centre portions 21, 18, Fig. 3, and the other pair 13, 31 interlocking only at their centre portions 23, Fig. 2, the section 3 having an opening 32 in its central portion facing inwardly of the curved base which also comprises a body 12 of insulating material having spaced contacts 7-10 for connection with the envelope terminals, and an external source and fixed to the section 3 by tongues. The sections 3 and 4 generally interlock by a flexible tab and slot connection. The body 12 has notches 42, 43, 44 to receive the tabs 28, 29, 30, Fig. 3, passing through the holes 45, 46, 47. The opening 32 has a rolledover edge 38 engaging the sides 39 of a flat portion in the convex surface 40 of the body 12. Specification 635,545, [Group XL (a)], is referred to.
