Abstract

680,816. Capping electric incandescent lamps. HIVAC, Ltd. Sept. 6, 1950 [Sept. 23, 1949], No. 24519/49. Class 39(ii) [Also in Group XXXVI] In a switchboard lamp or the like of the type having metal contact plates lying along the sides of the bulb and having a base of insulating material, one end of each of the contact plates 15, Figs. 5 and 6, is integrally moulded within the material of the base 18 and the plates are secured to the bulb by an adhesive. Preferably the contact plates are provided with an enlarged lower end 21, e.g. of T-shape, which is embedded within the moulded material of the base. A recess 19 is provided in the upper end of the base and, in assembling the parts, the contact plates are splayed outwardly, as shown in Fig. 6, to enable the lower end of the bulb 10 to be pushed down between them so that its sealed end 14 is within the recess. The ends of the leading-in wires 12 which project from the seal 14 are soldered or welded to portions 16 of the adjacent inner surfaces of the contact plates, after which a suitable adhesive is applied to the inner surfaces of the contact plates and to part of the bulb 10, and the plates are clamped down upon the bulb while the adhesive is caused to set.
