Abstract
637,541. Lamp-caps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21693. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1938. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] In a gas-filled, incandescent lamp of the type having two contact prongs, one of the prongs contains a fuse 10. The prong is formed by one of the supports 3 for the lamp filament being extended through the lamp cap as a hollow shaft 12. One end of the fuse wire 10 is secured to the bottom of the hollow shaft and is surrounded by an insulating sleeve 14. Another insulating sleeve 15 is placed round the shaft with a metal sleeve 16 arranged round it to provide the contact surface. A heavy wire 19 connects the other end of the fuse wire to the sleeve 16, cement 18 then being injected through the end of the latter to hold it in position and to seal the end of the fuse. Thin cups 8 of a metal such as " Fernico " capable of being sealed to glass surround the prongs where they are sealed through the lamp cap, sealing rings 9 of copper being located between the cups and the prongs.
