i oil whom it may concern lie it known that I, HARRY HOWARD in t ers, a. resident-of Tetreaultville, district lriontreal, Province of Quebec, Dominn of Canada, subject of the King of Great ritain, have invented certain new and used lmprovements in Electric-Lamp Socks; and 1 do hereby declare that the fol owing is a full, clehr and exact description hereof.
My invention relates particularly to the socket-shell, and has for its object to si n1- pli'ty the manufacture of the shells of 1ncandescent electric lamp sockets and render 15 the same more durable and less costly; and it may be said briefly to consist of a socket shell consisting of preferably pressed or stamped sheet metal parts having interlocklug means.
For full comprehension, however, of my invention, reference must be had to the ac' conipanying drawings forming a part of this speeilication in which similar reference characters indicate the same parts, and wherein: Y

This bead construction forms, in cilect, a pair of engaging transverse latching bars affording relatively extensive locking faces and securing the halves of the shell rigidly together. A slip-ring 7 formed of sheet metal bent back upon itself or spun or otherwise manufactured to present inner and outer spaced walls, is fitted upon the neck portions 7) 0 when they are brought together, and is held in place preferably by a screwb' penetrating the ferrule and fastens the socket to the braeketstem. The portions of the shell are thus rigidly secured together. The usual lining g and 7c of vulcanized rubber or other insulating'material are inserted into the neck and body of the shell which is fitted with the usual porcelain orfiber contact and key carrying block indicated in dotted lines at m, thus completing the socket.
In assembling the socket the contactcarrying block is elaspedgbetween the parts I) and 0 of the shell, the lugs being inserted and sprung into the slits after which the,

In order to provide means for fastening thesli 'i-ring in place when the socket is to be used with a cord for a drop light, for,
instance, the outer wall of the slip-ring is provided at opposite sides with circumferentially arranged slots 10 and 12 and each half of the neck of the shell has a raised boss 14 adapted to register with and en gage the slots when the ring is pressed to place.
\Vhat l claim is as follows:
1. An incandescent electric lamp socket shell having as integral component parts a body portion and cap, said shell beingdi vided in a longitlulinal axial plane into in dependent sheetmetal members, and means integral with the said members for locking the same together.
52. An incandescent electric lamp socket shell having as integral component parts a. body portion and cap, said shell consisting of a sheet metal member divided longitudinally into two equal parts and means formed integral. with the said parts for locking the same together.
3. An incandescent electric lamp socket shellhaving-as integral component parts a body portion and cap,,said shell being divided in a. longitudinal axial plane into independent sheetqueta'l IDOITlbCl'S, said members having integral interlocking slits and sprunglugs for engagement with the slits.

The combination with an incandescent key, said shell being electric socket shell divided into two members by a plane passing longitudinally through the axis, said shell having a-neclr portion, the members whereof register with each other and-have raised bosses, anda slip-ring consisting of inner and outer walls spaced to be slipped over the said members and having opposite slots for engagement by the bosses on the said members.

The combination with an electric lamp socket having a key projecting laterally relatively therefrom; of a shell for inclosing said socket having a neck portion ofvcomparatively small diameter at one,end,'a,circumferential bead in close proximity to the opposite end and an opening for said key, said shell being a sheet-metal'member having as integral component parts a body portion and cap, and being parts in a longitudinal axialplane bisect ng said opening for the purpose of enabling the removal of the the key; means for fastening the neck portions together, said means consisting of. a slip-ring comprising spaced inner and outer walls adapted to be slipped over the neck means for preventing relative lateral displacement betweensaid portions and ring means locking the shell parts together at the opposite ends, said means consisting of a slit in the circumferential head of one of said shell parts adjacent each side thereof and an integral circumferential extension of the bead of the other part beyond each slde edge thereof adapted to enter the slit in the divided into two shell. without disturbing therein to facilitate the interlocking of the parts and to present a flush surface when interlocked.
7. The combination with an electric lamp socket having a key extending laterally relatively therefrom; of a shell for inclosing said socket and having an. opening for said divided into two parts in a longitudinal axial plane bisecting said opening for the purpose of enabling the removal of the Sl10ll'-\\'itl'101lt disturbing the key; and means located at each end of said shell for fastening the parts together.

The combination with an electric lamp socket having a key projecting laterally rela -tively. therefrom; of a shell for inclosing said socket and having an opening for the key and a circumferential bead said shell comprising a sheet-metal member having as integral component-parts a body portion and .cap and being divided intotwo parts in a longitudinal axial plane bisecting ing, for the purpose of enabling removal of the "shell without disturbing the keyyand meansfor fastening said means consisting of a slit in the bead of one part adjacent each side thereof and an integral circumferential extension of the bead of the other part beyond each side edge thereof adapted to enter the slit in the other shell part each extension having a slit therein to facilitate the interlocking of the parts and to present a flush surface when interlocked.
