1286048 Electric lamp; discharge lamps PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [7 April 19701 26026/71 Headings HlF and HID An electric filament or gas discharge lamp comprises a tubular envelope which is sealed at least at one end by a pinch seal, in which one or more filaments or electrodes are secured to conducting members and/or supporting members in the pinch seal, the members being secured inside the envelope to a common supporting member extending transversely in the envelope and connected to the side wall of the envelope in one or more places. A halogen lamp including two tungsten filaments 31, 33 and a reflector 35 has current conductors 13, 15, 17 and 25, 27, 29 and sealing foils 19, 21, 23 of molybdenum, a quartz envelope 1 and a quartz bridge 7 which acts as a common support for the conductors. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a multi-filament projection lamp is shown. The quartz bridge may be replaced by a disc. In manufacturing the lamp (Figs. 5 to 7, not shown) the various components are assembled within the unsealed envelope and the walls of the envelope are pinched on to the bridge first whilst the components are held in position by jaws. The jaws are then withdrawn, the lamp evacuated and the pinch seal 3 formed.
