Abstract

964,212. Frangible fire-extinguisher closures. PYRENE CO. Ltd. May 24, 1962 [Nov. 24, 1961], No. 42141/61. Heading A5A. [Also in Divisions B2 and F2] A device for discharging fluid under pressure from a container or pipe in fire-extinguishing apparatus, comprises a rupturable diaphragm 3 closing a discharge opening 2 and supported by a plate 12 held in position by a mechanism comprising two levers 17, 22 with fixed fulcra 18, 23, the lever 17 holding the plate against the diaphragm and the lever 22 engaging the lever 17 and being prevented by holding means 25 from rocking out of engagement with the lever 17. The holding means 25 consists of a loop of fusible wire having its ends connected through electrical contacts to a socket 30 to which current may be supplied to break the wire, releasing the levers and allowing the diaphragm to rupture. The diaphragm has a down-turned edge embedded in solder in a groove 5. A hand-operated cutter 31 is provided for emergency use. The fusible wire may be replaced by a solenoid-operated catch engaging the lever 22.
