960, 446. Electric timepieces. H. DEMIEVILLE. Feb. 21, 1961 [Feb. 29, 1960], No. 6293/61. Heading G3T. In an electric timepiece an electric circuit is periodically made and broken to deform an electrostrictive element which drives the going train. In the first example, Figs. 1 and 2, the escapement lever 23 oscillates between two pins 26 and 27 to alternately apply a voltage to and remove a voltage from an electrostrictive element 4 which actuates a pawl and ratchet mechanism 14, 15, 16 to wind a spring 20 driving the going train and escapement. In two other arrangements the balance carries a cam which co-operates with switches to make and break a circuit including the element 4 which impulses the balance through a lever member, the going train being driven as before. The use of a transistor type amplifier is suggested.
