[Also in Division H3] An electric timepiece comprises an elastic vibrating member such as a tuning fork forming a time standard, this vibrator being maintained, through a suitable amplifier, by driving and detecting piezo-electric elements a, b respectively fixed to the vibrator which drives the time train through a pawl and ratchet not shown. As shown, connections from the elements a, b along with a third connection from the root of the fork, are made to a circuit comprising the transistor Tr, battery Bt, circuit switch SW, resistors R 1 , R 2 , R 4 and R 5 , and capacitors C 1 and C 2 . The vibrator may be in the form of a straight bar supported at two nodes. In another embodiment, the vibrator is in the form of a gapped circular ring carrying added masses at its free ends, the ring being supported at two nodes near which the elements a, b are fixed. The vibrator may be of a material possessing an invariable elastic modulus in ordinary temperatures, e.g. elinvar.
