Abstract
958,418. Cables. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 15, 1962 [Dec, 20, 1961], No. 45639/61. Heading H1A. A cable comprises conductors 3 grouped in mutually insulated interfitting bunches 4 of trapezoidal cross-section, arranged about a central cooling duct 1 and surrounded by a layer of insulating material 7. The conductors may themselves also be of trapezoidal cross-section in order to facilitate shaping of the bunches. The wall 2 of the cooling duct may be of opencoiled helical tubing 2 with the bunches of conductors interfitting about it. A fluidretaining layer 6 of conductive polythene, P.V.C., or P.T.F.E. is inserted between the bunches of conductors and the layer 7 of insulating material but may be omitted if layer 7 is fluid-tight and does not react with the coolant. An outer reinforcing or screening layer 8 of extruded P.V.C., P.V.C. tape or carbon-loaded fabric tape may be applied around the cable. Specification 862,654 is referred to.
