Abstract

1437742 A high voltage cable KERITE CO 25 June 1974 [27 July 1973] 28146/74 Heading H1A A high voltage cable has multiple layers of insulation with low specific inductive capacity (dielectric constant) and a layer of high specific inductive capacity (SIC) between them. The alternation of low and high can take place one or several times. A metallic shield may be placed around the outermost layer, which may be thinly coated with a semiconductive material. The core may also be coated with semiconductive material. A termination to the cable has a lug on the core a tapered insulation and a cutback in the shield (if present). A cable joint between two such cables uses known joint blocks (Fig. 5, not shown). Preferably the low SIC layer should be at least 5 times thicker than the high SIC layer. Low SIC material has a dielective constant ranging from 2 to 4.5, while that of high SIC material is 10 or greater.
