Abstract
Compositions for imparting a special finish to 300 denier bright viscose rayon knitted and woven fabrics comprise an aqueous low polymer resin impregnating solution comprising about 21% by weight of an alkaline precondensate of urea and formaldehyde and, as a catalyst zinc nitrate. The compositions may also contain a softener such as a fatty acid ester of a polyglycol. The preparation of a urea-formaldehyde precondensate is described in which an aqueous solution of urea and formaldehyde made alkaline by sodium bicarbonate is heated.ALSO:A process for applying a permanent finish comprising a glass-like appearance to bright viscose rayon woven and knitted fabrics having a denier of at least 300, comprises running the fabrics through an aqueous solution comprising about 21% by weight of a low polymer alkaline precondensate of urea and formaldehyde and from about 3% to 5% by weight of zinc nitrate, squeezing the goods thus treated to remove excess solution, drying the treated goods at a temperature of about 160 DEG F. and passing the dried goods through a tenter frame heated to about 305 DEG F. to 325 DEG F. at a speed of about 45 yards per minute, and finally washing the treated, dried and tentered goods at about 160 DEG F. for about 10 minutes. The aqueous solution may also contain a softener such as a fatty acid ester of a polyglycol.
