Abstract
957,958. Metal vapour lamps. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 14, 1963 [Feb. 9, 1962], No. 5120/62. Heading H1D. In a discharge lamp having a sinuous discharge path, at least a part of each barrier 5 separating convolutions of the discharge path is formed from a porous ceramic or vitreous material which permits metal vapour to pass from one side of the barrier to the other: the emvelope is formed from two members, at least one of which is of vitreous material, sealed together to provide the sinuous discharge path. This arrangement allows equilization of the metal vapour pressure in the lamp, when it is used as a D.C. lamp or rectifier. The porous material may be an insert in the wall 5, or one of the members, e.g. 2, which forms part of the envelope, and which provides the internal barriers, may be formed in its entirety from a porous ceramic or vitreous material, the lamp being sealed by forming a non-porous layer on the outer surface of the member. The lamp may be coated internally with a luminescent material. Specification 950,475 is referred to.
