Abstract

1405491 Metal-vapour lamps ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 26 Oct 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 49452/72 Heading H1D A metal-vapour discharge lamp has a prefabricated baffle arrangement for causing the discharge to follow a path 10, 10<SP>1</SP> which is longer than the direct distance between the electrodes 3 and 4, said baffle arrangement consisting of a plurality of baffle plates 7 and 8 projecting from opposite sides of a plate 6 provided with apertures 9 and forming a prefabricated structure which is slid into the envelope 2 during manufacture of the lamp. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 2a and 2b, not shown) the semicircular baffle plates are inclined to the lamp axis and the plate has apertures along its edges so that the discharge follows a helical path.
