Abstract
957,060. Air-heating recuperators. A. SCHACK, [trading as REKUPERATOR KOMM.-GES. DR-ING SCHACK & CO.]. May 24, 1961 [June 15, 1960], No. 18823/61. Addition to 838,133. Heading F4S. The furnace recuperator of the parent Specification in which air entering through a duct 14 is divided into two streams 15, 16 which are respectively heated in ducts 1, 1<SP>1</SP> formed around a radiation chamber A, is modified by providing above the radiation chamber, a convection air heater B through whioh the flue gases flow after passing through chamber A, and all or a portion of the air branched to the stream 16 is directed through the heater B. All the streams of heated air are united at the discharge duct 18. In the form shown the air branched to duet 16 is divided between ducts 16a, 16b leading respectively to radiant heating passage 1<SP>1</SP> and convection heater B. The air heated in heater B may flow through a duct 19 direct to discharge duct 18 or (as indicated by chain lines) it may be directed into header 6 to receive further heat in passage 1<SP>1</SP>. A manually or thermally actuated damper 11 provided in a by-pass duct 10 extending through the heater B enables the pressure in the furnace to be regulated. A further damper 13 may be provided in the chimney 12. In a modification (Fig. 1, not shown) all the air branched to the duct 16 passes through the heater B and thence to the radiation heating duct 1<SP>1</SP> before flowing to the discharge duct 18.
