Abstract
953,530. Selective retrieval storage systems. S. DUFF. April 13, 1960 [April 20, 1959], No. 13333/59. Heading B8E. [Also in Division B7] A storage system for use in a ship, warehouse or multi-storey garage comprises a series of vertically-spaced storage floors, each of which comprises a transverse series of longitudinal guideways supporting load-carrying trays, and a vertical and a transverse conveyer at each end of each floor together with means for transferring the trays between the transverse conveyers and the vertical conveyers and between the transverse conveyers and the guideways, one of the vertical conveyers being used for raising the trays and the other for lowering the trays. As shown, each storage level 10 in a ship is provided with a series of storage alleys 11 each comprising a pair of spaced guides 12 and a central conveying endless chain 13 having projections 14. A conveying passage 15, incorporating conveying means such as an endless chain provided with projections, is provided at each end of the storage alleys at each level and communicates with a vertical conveyer 16 or 17, Fig. 4 (not shown), each of which communicates at its lower end with a door in the side of the ship, means such as an endless chain 21 being provided for transferring loads from the conveyer 16 to a passage 15 or from a passage 15 to the conveyer 17. The loads 23 are supported on trays 22 which serve as floor sections for the alleys 11, the guides 12 being in the form of slideways, which may incorporate rollers, or alternatively the trays 22 may be provided with supporting wheels. An automatic or manually operable control system may be provided to control the various conveyers. Specification 949,609 is referred to.
